Position Overview:
CereTax is seeking an experienced and detail-oriented Senior Telecom Tax Research Analyst to lead our telecom tax research effort. The Senior Telecom Tax Research Analyst will play a pivotal role in ensuring our tax engine content is accurate and consistent with tax laws and regulations across the U.S. and Canada. With expertise in telecom tax research and an in-depth understanding of the U.S. and Canadian indirect tax landscape, the successful candidate will drive our tax research efforts and contribute to our clients' success.
Responsibilities:
As a Senior Telecom Tax Research Analyst at CereTax, you will have a crucial role in overseeing and conducting tax research activities. Your responsibilities will include, but are not limited to:
Telecom Tax Expertise:
- Demonstrate a deep understanding of sales tax regulations and compliance requirements in all U.S. states and Canada.
- Demonstrate a deep understanding of Telecom regulatory law and federal preemption as it affects federal and state regulatory impositions and fees.
- Demonstrate an understanding of the evolving technological landscape in the telecommunications industry and the associated tax and regulatory implications.
- Stay up to date with evolving tax laws and changes in the regulatory environment.
- Provide guidance to the team and clients on complex telecom tax matters.
Resource Utilization:
- Utilize a range of research tools and platforms, including Bloomberg, Thomson Reuters, state websites, LexisNexis, and other industry-specific resources, including state specific and FCC dockets.
- Streamline research processes to maximize efficiency and accuracy.
Partner Collaboration:
- Explain CereTax content to our telecom industry partners and customers.
- Work with Product and Content teams on new Telecom content initiatives.
Documentation and Reporting:
- Deliver clear and concise explanations of complex tax concepts to non-technical stakeholders.
- Maintain thorough records of research findings, methodologies, and conclusions.
- Generate comprehensive reports and presentations for internal teams and clients.
Continuous Improvement:
- Identify opportunities to enhance tax research processes, methodologies, and tools.
- Stay informed about industry best practices and contribute to the evolution of tax research practices at CereTax.
Qualifications:
- Bachelor's degree in accounting, finance, taxation, or related field. Juris Doctorate, Master's degree or CPA designation is a plus.
- 3+ years of experience in tax research, with a focus on telecom tax, across all U.S. states.
- Proficiency in utilizing research tools such as Bloomberg, Thomson Reuters, state websites, LexisNexis, and others.
- Strong data skills preferred.
- Strong analytical skills with the ability to interpret and apply complex tax regulations.
- Knowledge of tax regulations within targeted markets/verticals (SaaS, digital goods, information services, and telecommunications).
- Excellent communication skills to convey technical tax concepts to diverse audiences.
- Detail-oriented mindset and a commitment to maintaining high-quality standards.
- Problem-solving aptitude with the ability to identify issues and propose effective solutions.
